The Berne Wankdorf Stadium is the home of a club rich in tradition, BSC Young Boys. The legendary Wankdorf was the venue for the 1954 World Cup Final between West Germany and Hungary (3:2). After countless international matches, cup finals and league games of the Young Boys, the hallowed stadium was knocked down on 3 August 2001. In its place, a multifunctional football stadium with up to 40,000 covered seats is now being constructed. It will thus become the largest of the newly constructed modern stadia (Basle, Geneva, Zurich and St. Gallen)
